With the introduction of the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system and the installation of new measuring devices for dust emissions, the control of the production process at the Smederevo Steelworks has been improved in order to reduce dust emissions into the air, which is of great importance for the health of the local population and the preservation of the environment. Specialised PLC software enables the processing of data from the dust emission measuring device in real time. If the dust emission approaches a threshold value, the software issues an alarm in the form of a sound and light signal, in order to immediately change the parameters of the production process. The data on the emission values from three measuring devices is published daily on the company’s website.
