This shopping centre collects food waste from restaurants and cafés as well as organic waste from the surrounding green areas and processes it into compost, which is used as fertiliser. This is done with a device that uses a special type of bacteria so that the composting process is accelerated and reduced to just 24 hours. In this way, up to 260 kg of organic waste is composted per day, i.e. 96,000 kg of organic waste per year, which helps to reduce the amount of organic waste going to landfills. This is particularly important as it reduces emissions of methane and other greenhouse gases, which has a positive impact on the environment. Turning waste into a new product also helps to accelerate the circular economy.
