This initiative aims to reduce paper waste by using traditional Japanese technologies to manufacture products from recycled paper. Together with professors from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy at the University of Belgrade, the “Naša kuća” association has developed a recipe for the production of waterproof paper made by recycling, the end product of which are containers for food delivery. The association employs people with developmental disabilities to make paper and cardboard products by hand, giving them the opportunity to become more independent. This also raises social awareness of the neglected potential of people with developmental disabilities and encourages the local community to support them. Making new products from empty cigarette packs and other waste paper helps to save energy and reduce waste through reuse and recycling.

Solidarity and preservation of nature woven into paper

The organisation for support of persons with developmental disabilities, “Our Home”, is located in the Mirijevo district of Belgrade. On the organisation’s premises, hard-working young people turn used cigarette packets into a brand new product – high-quality recycled paper. The organisation, run by Anica Spasov, is a harbinger of hope and purpose for young persons with developmental difficulties. Here they have not only found a place to work, but also a community that appreciates their contribution to the pursuit of a sustainable future.
