This initiative brings together producers of peppers and other vegetables from underdeveloped areas of Serbia with producers of natural cosmetics and soap, the company “BIO IDEA”. This inventive approach enables the recycling of significant amounts of organic waste generated in the production of ajvar, a condiment made principally from red bell peppers (1 kg of ajvar = 1 kg of waste). It also promotes social and female entrepreneurship. The added value of this idea is that it contributes to employment increase and quality of life in an underdeveloped, rural part of Serbia. Also, the idea has great potential for upscaling, as this type of organic waste is widely available and the technology is simple.
