The “Liquid Tree” is a new biotechnological solution for air purification and the reduction of CO2 emissions, especially in densely populated urban areas where the concentration of pollutants is very high. This innovative solution is not intended to replace trees, but to help reduce air pollution in areas where there is no space for planting. The aquarium with 600 litres of water is home to algae which absorb CO2 and produce clean oxygen. It is estimated that cities are the source of up to 75% of the world’s total CO2 emissions, most of which comes from transport and the cooling and heating of buildings. The “Liquid Tree”, which was placed in front of the Municipality of Stari Grad in Makedonska Street in Belgrade, also has a bench and a charging station for mobile phones, as well as a solar panel on top – to provide night-time light.
