One of the largest solar power plants in Serbia, “Toyo Tire Taiyo” (taiyo meaning “sun” in Japanese), was built near the tyre factory in the municipality of Inđija in order to make the production of this factory as environmentally friendly as possible. The power plant has a capacity of 7.2 MW and the electricity it produces is primarily used to supply the factory, minimising the consumption of electricity from the grid. Surplus “green solar power” is fed into the distribution grid according to the consumer/producer model as soon as the factory’s needs are met. In the first year of using the solar power plant, emissions reduced have been approx. 11,153 tonnes of CO2, while over a period of 20 years, emissions are expected to be reduced by 205,438 tonnes of CO2.
