The project Urban Forest 4.0: Innovative Management of Green Infrastructure in Užice aims to enhance urban green infrastructure through an integrated and innovative approach to public tree management. Užice faces challenges of high air pollution, temperature inversions, and urban heat island effects, while green space distribution in the city center is inadequate. The project combines three methods – Visual Tree Assessment (VTA), acoustic tomography (Arbotom), and drone-based NRI analysis – creating a comprehensive system for assessing tree health, structural stability, and vitality. Collected data will be georeferenced and integrated into the local government GIS platform, enabling risk mapping, priority planning, and real-time monitoring.
The project plans to assess 300 trees and plant one kilometer of linear greenery with nursery-grown seedlings aged at least 7 years. Innovation lies in the synergy of field, instrumental, and digital methods, transitioning from a reactive to a preventive model, and supporting circular economy principles through tree preservation and wood valorization. Expected outcomes include increased citizen safety, extended tree lifespan, reduced emissions, improved air quality, enhanced urban climate resilience, and contribution to the green transition of municipal infrastructure.
