The project will use Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC) technology to process 10 tons of winery pomace into hydrochar, which will be used as a soil amendment. The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” (IBISS), the Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy (IHTM), and the Faculty of Physical Chemistry (FPC), which will carry out the necessary physical and biochemical characterization of the winery waste and resulting hydrochar.
Pusula Winery (Astra ITB d.o.o.) will be responsible for the installation and testing of the HTC reactor under real industrial conditions, with an expected 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (reducing the annual impact of winery pomace from 21 t CO₂eq to 3 t CO₂eq).
In the future, the development of biobatteries based on hydro char is also planned.
