The City of Leskovac has fully reconstructed the Red Star city boiler room, which now operates solely on gas, instead of using lignite and gas. The old coal boiler, with a capacity of 15 MW, consumed approximately 4,000 tons of coal per year.
The reconstruction was carried out in several phases, starting in 2015. It was completed with support of the project EU for Green Agenda in Serbia by purchasing a new boiler and an economizer – a device that more efficiently uses the thermal energy of exhaust gases to heat the boiler feedwater, saving energy and reducing harmful gas emissions. The work also included installing additional equipment such as burners, chimneys, electrical cabinets, and gas ramps. Through this project, the City of Leskovac has significantly improved its energy efficiency and air quality.
