Plastic drip irrigation pipes contribute significantly to more efficient irrigation and an increase in crop yields but become problematic waste at the end of their service life due to long-term non-biological decomposition. Serbia lacks sufficient infrastructure to recycle these plastic components, leading to improper disposal or incineration, which harms the soil, water, and air. This innovative solution involves recycling plastic waste from drip irrigation systems to produce new products, such as oil and grease separators, which protect surface waters. It supports sustainable agricultural practices in Serbia, reduces pollution, improves resource efficiency and promotes the circular economy. It also prevents soil and water pollution and improper disposal of irrigation systems.
