The project uses condensate generated during the wood steaming process as a natural textile dye. In Serbia, more than 200 wood-processing companies produce condensate rich in polyphenols with antioxidant properties. At the same time, textile dyeing causes significant environmental pollution, as it requires large amounts of water, chemicals, and energy, while synthetic dyeing pose environmental and health risks.
This innovative symbiosis between the wood and textile industries reduces chemical use, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions by replacing synthetic dyes with an environmentally friendly condensate. Project activities include condensate analysis, dyeing tests, and pilot projects with partners, transforming wood “waste” into a valuable resource for the textile industry.
