Advancing Circular Economy in Water Supply Services

PUC Vodovod Kruševac

JKP Vodovod Kruševac is implementing a project that promotes circular economy principles in water supply services by using renewable energy sources at the wastewater treatment plant and valorizing sludge. The project includes the construction of a 92 kW solar photovoltaic power plant with batteries and a hybrid inverter (a device that converts direct current from solar panels into alternating current suitable for consumption while enabling energy storage in batteries). This system will provide about 25% of the plant’s annual electricity consumption. Additionally, an energy-efficient, automated sludge dewatering system will be installed, enabling continuous operation, optimal sludge moisture, and preparation for further use. The project will reduce CO₂ emissions by 96.9 tons annually, decrease water consumption, improve wastewater quality, and reduce the amount of generated waste. Furthermore, it will lower the company’s operating costs.
